Catching Up On Life
Mood:  lazy

So, I have been doing a lot of quizzes lately instead of ranting. Well, can you blame me? It is year end here at work and June has been absolutely nucking futs if you get my meaning. It was much more calm than last year or the year before, and actually, it has been getting better every year that we’ve had the new financial system. What’s been crazy is my schedule. I worked two of the last three Saturdays and it appears I will have this weekend off. Thank heaven! I worked 17 out of 19 days. WOW. The overtime will be nice, don’t get me wrong.

Other crazy things, well, the mortgage interest rate went adjustable just as I knew it would. So, we went from a set 6.75% to 8.75%. Luckily I have been slowly upping what we’ve been paying every month so we could learn to live with the increase the adjustable rate would cause, as well as the recent reassessment of our property value, ie tax increase. We are easily making the payment and then some. I am still paying double on the second mortgage hoping to get that down as quickly as possible before that one goes adjustable. We are on the road to refinancing. I am one month from having our only credit card paid off. That should raise our credit rating even more. We are also attempting to save every last penny to go into a refinancing situation with all our ducks in a row so to speak.

Besides all of that, the children are with us and have been since June 15. They have another week to go. I love having them here with us. They’ve grown up so much these last few years. We are going to blink and they will be grown up and gone. They are rather self-sufficient now and are making their own meals some of the time. It’s been interesting to see what they would choose for themselves. Let’s just say the mixed fruit cups (over a dozen) were gone the first week. They are eating the yogurt more slowly, but they are still eating it and enjoying it.

On the health end of things, I think it might be time to contact the doctor. My reoccurring feminine issues are back. I kind of think it is the stress of year end, so I am waiting a little to see if it resolves itself like it has at other times. If not, then a phone call and a prescription will take care of everything. I hope.

Matt’s going back to a five day a week schedule next week. It’s not like he wasn’t working five days a week anyway. I told him over a year ago when they went to four ten hour days that he’d probably end up working every Friday and/or Saturday. I was right. At least with a four-ten schedule he had the option to turn down the overtime and not work on Friday. Now, they will work him on a supposedly five-eight schedule. Who wants to bet me that he is going to end up working five-ten and will be required to do Saturday overtime as well – thus eliminating his ability to say ‘no’ to unwanted overtime? Also, this basically does away with long weekend vacations for us. He doesn’t get much time off work; eight hours of personal time off each month. He can save them up to get a week’s vacation or more IF he doesn’t get sick. Any of you who know my husband knows he gets sick easily. He still has his tonsils and well, you sneeze in his direction and he’s done for – down for the count. He often jokes that if he gets sick and gives it to me, that I take it in, hardly get ill at all, and spit the sickness back at him mutated and stronger – angry little germs that are dying to make someone ill since they couldn’t take me out. So – they gang up on him for having given them me and treat him twice as hard as the first time they got at him. I am germ strengthener so it seems, although I rarely get the flu. Knock wood. About once a year I get a bad bug I can’t shake and it is usually so bad it takes me off work for four days or so yet lingers for up to five weeks. That’s what happened last Spring. I’ve been very fortunate this year come to think of it.

I recently lightened my hair. Having been unable to find the right color in Wichita, I went on line and of course found what I was looking for tout suite. Stages of lightness will take about four weeks if not five. Each summer I gradually lighten my hair and then each winter I let it go darker. It’s my cyclical hair thing I do. The mane is to my butt and I have been thinking of cutting it a bit – take off about five inches or so – clean it up. I’ll have to see what it looks like as I gradually lighten it and keep watch on the ends which don’t handle the treatment well being ends and all. Matt took a picture of my hair before hand so I can get an idea of changes I have made. I will post the picture here. I also took a picture of Matt’s hair while we were at it. He didn’t lean back in the chair like I did so you could get the true length. So here is a picture of my hair.

Now, I'll try and get a picture of Matt's hair on this site - let's see if I can.

Well, needing to relax a little and feeling in the mood for something different. I put on some Ravi Shankar music and got relaxed by the awesome ragas he played. If you’ve never heard Ravi play before check him out on YouTube at this URL which is a clip from the Dick Cavett Show.

I trolled around a bit and found Apocalyptca doing Nothing Else Matters by Metallica. They’re awesome as well, check them out:

I'll post more pictures of my hair after I lighten it.

Am I A Feminist? Well, duh!
Mood:  celebratory
Topic: Quizzes
Are you a feminist?
Your Result: You are a full blooded feminist!

You believe in women's rights all the way and continue to be unhappy with the way things are right now and wish for more change. You are willing to take part in marches, boycotts and meetings that involve the amelioration of women's issues. You realize that society views feminists negatively but still are proud to call yourself one. You are appalled to see women who don't have a clue that "gender" is simply a term which the definition is 100% man made. If you feel a comment is sexist or makes you uncomfortable you speak up on it! You are always aiming to help others become aware of how much further women need to go and how society restricts them and predetermines their roles. You hate that feminists are so devided in themselves and believe that only if they are unified can they make a difference. We need more of you!

There is a strong feminist inside you! Let it out!
You are being held back by society's constrictions
Are you a misogynist!?
Are you a feminist?

Again, does this really surprise anybody?

Anyways, the movie Order of the Phoenix is coming out July 11 and I think I am going to take off half day to go see it!

The 7th and final book "Harry Potter and the Dealthy Hallows" will be out on July 21. I pre-ordered it from and will have it delivered directly to my house. I plan on spending that awesome weekend curled up in bed with my book and a pot of tea.

Time for a Quiz Result - How 70's Am I?
Mood:  happy
How 70's Are You?
Your Result: You're Are Stuck In The 70's!

You may have graduated high school in the 70's, but you never really left. You have a huge 70's CD collection and still watch Happy Days on TV. Your heros are Grand Funk Railroad, Fonzie, Laverne, Shirley, and you have a smiley face on the back window of your 1975 Camaro.

You Spend A Lot Of Time In The 70's
How 70's Are You?
See All Our Quizzes

All I have to say to this quiz result is - well duh! I may be stuck somewhere in the 70's, but there has got to be some 80's and 90's in there as well, right? I didn't graduate in the 1970's, I was born in the 1970's and it was by far the best time of my life until recently. I had my mother's full attention for most of it. My brother wasn't born until the last three months of the decade. Life was easy - school was fun - my Dad and I watched Kung Fu together on the couch on the weekends. We traveled as a family to Lake Mead and other cool spots with my cousins with whom I spent a lot of time. Sheri and I were much closer then than we ever were afterward. My parents were still in love, and although my mother was getting 'into' the Witnesses heavy duty taking my Dad along with her, this was the only decade I had a birthday party in. I still haven't had a birthday party in my honor since I was 6 years old.

The 1970's had awesome music. Zepplin, Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, CCR, Donna Summer, Grateful Dead, Frampton, Kiss, Aerosmith, Sabbath, need I go on? If you doubt the 70's was awesome for music then you need to rent 'The Midnight Special' DVD's that have the live footage from that famous TV show.

AND...the 70's was the birth of the Sci/Fi genre for real...hello Star Wars!!!

How about the awesome fact 1976 was this country's 200th anniversay!?!

Yeah - the 1970's was the last real decade that ROCKED...without depression and prozac. The 1980's sucked for the majority of the time because of Ron and Nancy fuddy-duddying up the country with their conservatism - everyone was scared of the moral majority and what they would do, AND hello - 1980's brought AIDS - MAJOR downer. The 1990's rocked, but by then everyone was angry and grundgy. Most of the must lacked happiness or anything upbeat. It was rare in the 1990's.

The 1970's - "You make me feel like dancin'"

Two thumbs up-amundo!

Cars Suck
Mood:  accident prone
Topic: Reality
I am trying to keep my eye on the precious and allusive silver lining on all those terrible thunderclouds circling me at the moment.

Yesterday on the drive to work, I turned a corner and my dashboard orange light came on: Service Engine Soon. As if the obnoxious light wasn't enough to get my attention, at that very same moment while I was accelerating out of the turn, my car lost power so-to-speak. It stuttered, was sluggish, jerked, you know - scared the living shit out of me! This was half way to work, mid-way through the town of Haysville on the oh so lovely detour around the bridge reconstruction on highway 81.

Luckily, I made it into Firestone - my trusty mechanics- after having near heart failure every time I had to start off the line after a stop. With my engine gasping, hoping I wasn't ruining anything, and praying that nobody behind me was lacking their first of the day caffeine boost to keep them awake and prevent them from both tailgating and rearending me while my car stalled, I barely held on to my sanity and optimism.

Firestone had a plethora of cars in line before me and told me that it was highly unlikely they could get to me. It seemed as though I would be stuck in Wichita until Matt could come pick me up. What was I to do? The only thing I could, I left my car in Dale's capable hands and set off to work via Firestone's courtesy van.

Meanwhile, as I was processing year end data at a maddening rate and taking my blood pressure every hour hoping I wouldn't die from stress and worry, I called and left a message for my husband on his boss' voicemail. About an hour after I left the message, Matt calls, we talk, and arrange that he is to pick me up at 5:30pm in my office building parking lot since my car was going to be at Firestone overnight.

Then, about an hour after I spoke with Matt, Firestone called. Lo and behold, Dale felt very guilty as I am a loyal customer, and bumped me ahead of the non-regulars who brought their cars in for oil changes. As it turns out, this electronic meter that manages the mixture of air and gasoline in the fuel system was filthy, as was my fuel system. Who would have thought that gasoline, oil, and well engines in general were filthy? Note - I am using sarcasm! Gold star for me. Anyway, Dale tells me that he has cleaned the meter, he is going to clean the fuel system, and hopefully, after $255 later, everything will be fine. He said it as if he were crossing his fingers behind his back. I could hear it in his voice that he wasn't so sure that would be the fix.

Still, I called Matt's boss and left another message telling him to tell Matt that I did not need to be picked up after all.

So, feeling releaved that I had escaped a nasty part replacement and the high cost that would have been, I went out to lunch with a co-worker, Sharon, who just happens to love sushi as much as I do. Bamboo Sticks, Sharon's favorite sushi spot for lunch, was empty and we got served right away. Hooray for Spicy Tuna Rolls and wasabe! They certainly take away all angst. Twelve delicious tobiko encrusted pieces later, I was contemplating buying some to-go for Wednesday's lunch, as the sushi chef said the California Rolls would be fine the next day. Another dozen California Rolls tucked away in my bag for lunch tomorrow, and Sharon and I set off to go back to the office.

The afternoon was quite peaceful even with the whirlwind that is year-end processing wipping about me. Theresa generously offered to take me to Firestone and I accepted and we left at 4:45pm.

There was one nagging worry. Matt had never called me to tell me he got my message. I couldn't make up my mind. Should I risk calling his touchy company a third time, possibly totally pissing off his boss to confirm he got my message? Or, should I trust that his boss gave him my message? I could have just gone and sat in the parking lot of my office in my car and waited to see if Matt pulled up having not got the message - but I didn't. I started on my drive home taking a route I knew Matt would take - just in case.

Well, about half way home, just on the Wichita side of Haysville, I see Matt driving towards me. He didn't get my message! His boss never told him not to come get me! I honk, stick my arm and head out the window, and my poor sweet husband, intent on picking me up in Wichita didn't see me. I pulled over and waited about five minutes to see if he perhaps did see me and turned around. He definately didn't. So, I sped off after him hoping to catch up. NOT. Didn't happen. I finally caught up with him. Where? MY OFFICE!

Yes, I had to drive all the way back to my office where he was waiting for me. I can't even relate the amount of road rage I had driving after him. Not only was I extremely pissed off at his boss and the fact that my hardworking, tired husband had to make the trip for nothing, I hit every bloody red light, found every old fart out for his last breath and drive, and most certainly every person walking their stubborn dogs across the main highway 81 on long leashes. These dogs obviously had the desire to become roadkill because they often lunged off the leash causing neurotic cellphone gabbing trophy wife Barbies in their Lexus SUV's to nearly crash into me. Add to all this the fact that three of four streets along my route back to work are caulk full of orange barrels for street construction. Who wouldn't have a conniption fit?

Well, we drove home and everything seemed fine with the car. That is until...

This morning pulling out of the Cessna Credit Union parking lot, the fricking orange dashboard light Service Engine Soon came AGAIN!

Off to Firestone I went. As I type this, my car is their being fitted with a new meter ($500 + time and labor). I haven't called Matt to let him know because I don't want a repeat of yesterday. If they can get my car running, he won't have to be troubled like he was yesterday - my poor sweetheart. If they can't get the car running until tomorrow...well, I'll just have to call Matt after work to come get me, and hopefully he won't have gone to Joshua or Joey's to play cards.

Despite all this - I don't want a cellphone! I might be in the market for a new car though if this is the beginning of the end for the Pathfinder.

Man - cars suck!

Yes, I am upset that they let her out of jail. If she were some unfortunate poor person that had a DUI she'd still be in jail. Why is she out? Because she is rich and beautiful.

I didn't hate her before, but I do now!

It's just so wrong. This is what our justice system has come to. If you're a celebrity you get whatever you want.

She exemplifies what is wrong with our country today.
